[Editorial Feature] Korean IT Security market grew by 4.4%, making 303.2 billion won (KRW) in 2009

Even though IT market in Korea was in a poor condition in 2009, Korean IT Security market was not bad at all. Rather, the investments on virtualization, cloud computing, network-based businesses, and IT system construction of next generation have been continued constantly through last year. Enterprises are suffering from data leakage and due to these incidents, the effects followed by legal restriction, strengthened security condition and situations like 7.7 DDoS are reaching the whole IT industry. Those affect also security enterprises positively as well. Along the line, UTM (Unified Threat Management) in Korean market grew by 4%, making 340 billion won (KRW) in 2009 and it is expected to grow continuously and by 4%, making up to 353 billion won this year. Fortinet, the global UTM vendor, is currently being the solo lead in the world market. According to our research, Fortinet Korea is still maintaining its leading position with over 30% market share in Korea. Global enterprises like Fortinet, Watchguard, Juniper will be focusing on high-end UTM market, and local vendors like Cqi.com, AhnLab, Future System, and Nexg will be centering around government and SMB market, forecasting the extension of UTM market. A desperate battle is expected to come among enterprises targeting high-end UTM market this year, where those enterprises are off the point in mid-range market but rather saturated.
